BrainBustle

Social media that values your time.

Our goal is to enable individuals to come to their own conclusions by letting the ideas take center stage while providing the user with data corporations usually keep for themselves.

Social Media is the schoolyard where factionalism and insincerity can be used against you. That, to me, is not free speech but a hindrance to it. BrainBustle is the dining table where you come correct, and leave angst at the door.

Philosophies

Ownership

Privately Owned

Why?

As a company sells off equity, it also risks selling away its vision and purpose. Corporations can be exponentially more profit-driven, with a typically greater chance of speeding off in a direction far different from where one’s moral compass would point.  There can be a large difference in behavior between a group of people making a living and a profit generating machine owned by swaths of expectant individuals not personally invested with the company’s goals.

The whole concept of BrainBustle is to bring some civility and trust into the industry, which can be incompatible with some contemporary corporate practices.

Demographic Information

We want as much as you are willing to give.

Why?

We do not sell this information to third parties but right back to the users, making voter results practically public information and leveling the playing field. What’s even better is that votes for any given topic are scrambled and can never get traced back to your specific account.  The demographic information can help civil servants, investors, and inventors respond to the people’s will. They will gain an understanding of who needs/wants what.  Most of all, if you want enlightening data on your own post results, then in good faith, you should be giving as much information as you hope others are offering you.

The Guidelines

The Strictest

Why?

BrainBustle’s users are those who don’t wish to vent, stroke egos, or have theirs stroked.  It’s strictly hypotheses, suggestions, and questions for everyone to internalize, digest, and make a simple but defined gesture on the topic at hand.  They have no time for trolling, spam, or propaganda. Each post is simply an idea, your mind, and your verdict.

There is a text limit to one’s grammatically corrected posts and the number of posts themselves to ensure everyone is getting each other’s best efforts.

In a time where we can’t fully trust pictures, videos, links, or even emojis, we got rid of them all.  It’s much harder to confuse the context of a few sentences without the bells and whistles.

Personal accounts only; no government, corporation, or other type of entity can play in this game, and those individuals who want to push the guidelines in a malevolent manner will be booted. No flags, strikes, or free throws, just out, without passing GO, without refund.

Advertisements

Score one for the good guys.

Why?

For us, advertising is not simply a way to pay the bills but an opportunity to give those who strive to do the right thing a leg up. It is not typically cost-effective to do right by your suppliers, employees, and customers, and such businesses cannot outbid the big boys for consumer eyeballs.  Therefore, our advertising platform, which is relatively unobtrusive to the user, is only available to companies that run their business on the up and up.

Of course, this means a massive drop in revenue for us, but considering that we aren’t concerned with appeasing investors or conducting hostile takeovers, it’s not that big of a deal.  We are a quality-first brand hoping to lift up those with the same intentions. Our contribution to society is to let the best ideas see daylight and the consumer’s real desires be heard. That is what makes BrainBustle more than social media but constructive media.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you think social media needed such a hard reboot?

Many of us have, at one point or another, lamented how, despite all the hope and promise of the information age, we have collectively seemed to grow dumber. Can we, with good conscience, say that people are more in tune with each other? That leaders are responsive to their people’s needs? Do we no longer make the same mistakes as previous generations?

With all the information at our fingers, we have managed to become less informed, factually, or well-rounded while growing more egocentric, divided, deluded, and controlled.

Information is power, so you must expect that all the good stuff comes at a cost. Like anything else, the free stuff is poorly put together and comes with a catch—like cheap food. Free news and social media are loaded with salt, sugar, fat, and assorted chemicals. If you get enough of it, your brain becomes a tumor made of ideas and concepts it created for you.

BrainBustle keeps the oxygen going to the ol’ melon by going organic.  Just people’s ideas without the salt, sugar, and spice that other media companies like to get you hooked on.  BrainBustle wants you high on life.

How do you prevent people from voting multiple times?

A private phone number must be submitted with each account. Only individuals can have an account. Governments, corporations, or any other organized group is prohibited from having an account to post ideas or vote.

Will there be advertising?

There will be limited and comparatively unobtrusive advertising. Advertisers must also reach a set ethical standard to apply for the limited space provided. At times, a popular post might be followed with an ad that fits closely to said post. ie. There is a popular post calling for blue widgets, and there happens to be a little-known company that makes blue widgets. That would be an ethical pairing on our part. There will be NO algorithms funneling specific ads to specific demographics.

What makes an advertiser suitable for BrianBustle?

Advertisers considered viable for BrainBustle are those who have a record of fair business practices with their customers, employees, and supply lines. They will not have skeletons in their closet regarding human rights violations or environmental destruction. Nor will they be large political donors or have politicized their product. Their leaders and spokespeople will have conducted themselves with common decency.

Why was your advertisement or advertiser application denied?

Did the ad violate any of the rules we have for our basic posts?

Did the image fit our platform’s required specifications?

Is your organization currently involved in litigation?

Is your organization in poor standing with the Better Business Bureau or similar organizations?

Does your company have a history of worker, consumer, or environmental exploitation?

Does your company or notable members of your company endorse political figures?

I am still not sure how it works for me.

How it works for you:
Test an idea. With the data provided, you might find your idea has wide appeal or a solid niche market.
You don’t want to take the television depiction of popular opinion on an issue for granted and see for yourself.
You want to test the public’s appetite for a new product type before investing in a related penny stock.
You want to put your need out there so an inventor or influential person might make it happen.
Create public support for a little-known issue.

Do I have to use my Indiegogo perk immediately when the website launches?

The free advertising perks must be used within the first year of launch. Individual subscription perks can be cashed in anytime. For instance, you might want to wait until there are at least 50,000 users to get a greater amount of data; that’s fine, you do you.

Why must users complete the spelling and grammar check to submit their post?

When all posts are displayed with correct grammar and spelling, they are viewed equally and thus have the best chance for success.

Why did your post get rejected?

Given social media’s current no-holds-barred state, we fully understand your frustration, but this isn’t social media. It’s constructive media. It is more a place where people spitball their ideas and share their curiosities than where they critique or make their opinions heard.

So, with that come some rules.  Below are the many instances where you might have violated such rules.

It is also important to note how successful posts are worded. Even unpopular concepts will be given a second chance if you simply take the time to word things correctly. So, let’s be clear: we didn’t block you; you blocked yourself.

  • Did you have a potty mouth?
  • Did you try to attach emojis, links, or hashtags?
  • Did you submit something very similar to what another user already posted? You might want to search the posts to see if what you have to say is redundant.
  • What was your verbiage? Some words are nearly impossible to use without seeming aggressive or inflammatory. Words like kill, hate, die, beat, etc. will have a post immediately removed from consideration. We don’t have time to examine the use of the word or be experts in current slang. The thesaurus is a damn useful tool.
  • Did you use euphemisms or coded language like a cheeky monkey? We are always on the lookout for such things and will err on the side of caution.  As some try to work around restrictions with wordplay, moderators will adjust.
  • Were you specific? Words like all, no one, never, and ever are superfluous, making you sound non-creditable and overboard. People respond poorly to them, so do yourself justice and rewrite.
  • Did you regurgitate closely a previously published or recorded talking point from a media organization, corporation, or political entity? Organizations cannot have accounts on this platform, nor do we permit individuals to be their spokespersons.
  • Did you slander or attack a specific individual in a slanderous or aggressive fashion?

These restrictions are not simply to prevent noise that no one wants to hear; we want what you have to say to come out as appealing as possible and not be discriminated against because it was poorly written.

Why are users limited to a certain amount of posts weekly?

Posts are limited to encourage users to put their best foot forward when constructing their ideas and to prevent users from being inundated with a spamming of low-quality concepts.

What happens when someone breaks conduct policy?

Depending on the degree of the offense, their account is terminated without a refund on the first or second offense. Users will not use the platform to repeatedly threaten others, advertise, or push propaganda.

Why is demographic information important?

Although providing your user information is not mandatory, nor is it sold to advertisers, it does provide information for the general user in which they can see how people with different perspectives feel about different topics. The more users share, the better the data that becomes available. The data will help those looking to fulfill the users’ desires. For example, if a million people wanted boots with bells, it would help boot makers fill that need if they knew which people wanted them.

How do you prevent bias when voting?

Posts are anonymous until they are voted on and commented upon. Later if the user chooses, their name will then be revealed.

Why are there paid subscriptions?

Marketers, moderators, and techs need to be paid. We limit the amount of advertising users will see, and though one can’t write a scientific paper on the data provided to users, it still provides an enormous value.
